The Roscoe Jennings Memorial Peacemaker Awards

The members of Hope Lutheran Church believe that “because Christ cares, we care.”  In order to make a difference in the community, we are giving two $500 awards to deserving students at the St. Charles High Schools. They are the Roscoe Jennings Memorial Peacemaker Awards.  Roscoe was a member of Hope Church and a long-time teacher in the St. Charles school system.

The role of the peacemaker and the need for the peacemaker in our schools is so important today.  Jesus called the peacemakers “blessed” and all of Scripture elevates the role of peacemakers.  In this time of anger, revenge and self-centeredness, it is an important time to encourage the peacemakers in our community schools.  Giving this award could help students to set their own standards and goals even higher: that peacemaking is a higher good and it is worth taking the risk to be that person.

Each year, on a Sunday in March, we have a “Trivia Night” at our church in order to help raise the funds for these awards.  We request donations of items to use as door prizes to make the night more fun and therefore more successful.  Also, we request donations of any goods or services, big or small, to help us with our goal.
If you can help, please call Richard Vieth at 636-939-9270.

Each year, on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, the Evangelism Team sponsors a scavenger hunt by teams of our youth to collect food for the OASIS Food Pantry.  The teams invite the people to attend the Holy Week services and give them a handout with the times of these services along with a Hope brochure.
After the scavenger hunt the teams return to Hope for pizza and soda.  Each member of the team which collects the most food items wins a prize (this year it was a gift certificate to Blockbuster)
and each participant wins a small gift certificate to McDonalds.  This year's winning team, shown (pictured on left), collected 100 items.  Members of the team are Madeline Watson, Collyn Currie, and Caiti Currie." f you have any questions, please call Richard Vieth at 636-939-9270

The Roscoe Jennings Memorial Peacemaker Awards are under the auspices of the Evangelism Ministry of Hope Lutheran Church.
