P.A.C.E. Overview

P.A.C.E. is designed to address the life long learning needs of the Hope congregation and the community it serves.  Christian education is essential to nurturing faith, therefore it is important that each of us participate in ongoing education so that  our faith continues to grow.  Courses in the PACE program, will not be limited to Bible Study, but instead will be designed to take a holistic approach of addressing the educational needs of the mind, body and spirit of adults 17 years of age and older.

November

Dad – He’s Bullying Me!

This course for beginners to advanced. Every school day 150,000 American students stay home to avoid being bullied. Learn what bullying is, how you can help the young people in your life where bullying is a problem, and learn concrete steps that can be taken to respond to bullying.

A Prostitute, Two Prophets, and Poor ‘Ol Job

This course for beginners to advanced. Explore the Old Testament Bible characters in the belief that the stories of God's people are also about us.

Genetics and Faith

This course for beginners to advanced. Confused ~ troubled about Genetics? Two Hope members, who teach and work in the field of Genetics, will lead this study.

When a Loved One Dies

This course for beginners to advanced. Course is punctuated by all the conflicts and questions and realizations of the teen years when a loved one passes.

Encountering God in Scripture

This course for beginners. This concise introduction assumes no previous acquaintancewith Scripture and helps us understand the Bible as an encounter with the living God.

Number of Sessions: 5. Times and Location: 7:00–8:00PM at Hope Lutheran Church beginning Thursday 1/6/2011 and weekly thereafter based on group's decision when the best time to meet. Cost: $13/person.

Introduction to Islam

This course for advanced. A solid overview and deeper understanding of the Islam religion. Gain a new appreciation of the relationship between Christianity and Islam, including possibilities for hope and dialog in the post-September 11 era.

Making sense of the Book of Revelation

This course for beginners to advanced. Course helps you understand Revelations gives courage for today and hope for tomorrow.

A Cry for Help

This course for beginners to advanced. Most suicidal young people don’t really want to die; they just want their pain to end. Teen suicide is preventable – know the signs and steps to take if you suspect someone is suicidal.

How to Meet God, Transcend Religion, and Live in Grace and Power Forever

This course for beginners to advanced. Explores the New Testament ~ Paul’s letter to the Galatians ~ the clearest confession of the Christian faith ever penned by a human.

Understanding Our Family

This course for beginners to advanced. Understand how a family functions; learn concepts about adptability, cohesion, identity, and family systems; appreciate more fully your strength as a family; learn how you can do something in the family’s hassles.

Number of Sessions: 4.   Times and Location: 12:00 – 2:30PM at Hope Lutheran Church   Sunday 2/13, 20, 27/2010 and 3/6/2010 Cost: $10/family

Financial Sanity Seminar

This course for beginners to advanced. “The choices we make with our money can change the world and the choices you make with your money can change your world”. The Financial Sanity Seminar provides concrete, usable tools designed to equip youth and adults on how to balance spending with saving and sharing.

Circle of Care

This course for Cancer Survivors. For anyone who has been touched by Cancer of long-term illnesses…we all are Survivors and support one another when we struggle. Caretakers are also welcome. Times and Location: 7:00-9:00PM Mondays bi-weekly at Hope Lutheran Church   Ellie Newton-Rivero Leader 

Circle of Friends

This course for Women, all ages. Join a group of ladies who want to enjoy fellowship together. For women…we are a bunch of ladies, who just need some time to ourselves. Our activities include dinner out, movies, cooking classes, shopping and even a craft class. We enjoy such things as appetizers, drinks, a chocolate fountain and each other. Times and Location varies on the 2nd Friday of the month   Nancy David and Susan Hinton Leaders 

J.O.Y (Just Older Youth)

This course for Just Older Youth…mostly retired, but still incredibly active and available during the day . We like to see new places and do new things, and usually end up sharing lunch together wherever we happen to be. Times and Location varies on the 2nd Wednesday of the month   Cost: None, except for meals   Mary Thilker Leader 

Kids Against Hunger

This course for all ages . For kids and adults who want to feed the starving children…we meet to package food to be sent to Haiti. We also work on fundraising, organizing, and experiencing how God works through us. Kids Against Hunger is for all ages…if you can hold a spoon, you can help. Men’s Ministry

This course for Men of all ages. We build stuff, BBQ, eat together, hang out together, put on church dinners, do lots of service stuff, raise lots of money, and basically do whatever needs to be done around the church. Midrash

This course for all ages. For folks who like to discuss life and scripture…Midrash is what rabbi’s do when they wonder about scripture, and that’s what we do every week with the texts used in worship. Mothers and Daughters Encouragement (M.A.D.E.)

This course for Moms and teen daughters. We meet every couple of weeks for girl time. We try to see things from our mom’s/daughter’s point of view, and we just have fun together (yes, it is possible). Most of the daughters are in high school. Times and Location: 2nd and 4th Thursdays 1-2 hour sessions at Various Locations     Nancy and Elizabeth Diggs   Leaders 

Page Turners Book Club

This course for all who like to read. We pick a book each month, read it, and then meet to discuss it. The type of books we read are always different. It is always a lively discussion, and you can count on refreshments at every meeting. Sojourners

This course for women. We are a group of women who desire to grow closer to God and to each other. Times and Location: Tuesday evenings 3 times per month 2 hour sessions Melissa Milford and Karla Carnaghi Leaders 

Tuesday Bible Study

This course for those who enjoy studying the Bible. We study the scriptures that are used in worship on Sunday Morning. Times and Location: Tuesday 10:00-11:30AM at Hope Lutheran Church Classroom 2&3   Pastor John Lundin and Pastor Chad Langdon Leaders 

Beyond Borders

This course for those who want to make a difference in other countries. We come from different walks of life and are different ages, but we are all deeply passionate about mission work in 3rd world countries. Times and Location: 1st and 3rd
